Emily Naylor's NHL Blog
First day in Christchurch
by Emily Naylor
Hi all, and welcome to my blog which will keep you updated on how the Visique Central Mysticks are getting on.
We had a great start to the season with a convincing win over Wellington last Saturday. This was the opening round of the competition, so it was important we got off to a good start with 3 points on the board.
We won the match 5-2. It was evenly contested in the first half and we went into the break 2-1 up. Early in the second half Wellington was awarded a penalty stroke which they put away. This meant 2-2 so pressure was on.
The game started to open up and we managed to have some great attacking opportunities. We scored to lead the game 3-2 then followed with 2 more goals to secure the win.
This week we have had training to tighten up on areas such as penalty corners and set plays. We have had some really good trainings and everyone seems to be in good spirits heading into the tournament.
We are heading down to Christchurch today at midday. Here we will meet up with the Hawkes Bay lot as well as meeting up with Piki Hamahoma and Jodie Schultz, who have come across from Australia as our guest players.
There is a great feeling amongst the group and I know everyone is looking forward to the tough week ahead. It is a full on week with 3 games in a row before our first rest day. This is followed by 2 more games then a rest day. Then it is onto our last round robin game before the final day where we will be hoping to play off for 1st and 2nd.
I will keep you updated during the week with the latest news and how we are getting on. There will also be updates on the New Zealand Hockey website.
Get behind our team and keep up to date at centralhockey.co.nz !
Cheers
Emily Naylor
