Three games in three days, time for a rest!
by Emily Naylor
After our first up wins against Wellington at home and North Harbour on Saturday, we have had a tough two matches over the last couple of days.
On Sunday we were up against Aucklamd who had not won a game yet. We knew they would come out firing and hungry for a win!
It was a tight match with both teams creating lots of opportunities. It wasn’t until the last five minutes of the match where they were awarded a penatly corner. They scored off this with a well worked deflection. Unfortunately the score stayed at 1-0 which was disappointing for us.
Last night we played Northland who we knew would again be tough to beat, with them still winless. We played well with a lot of attacking opportunities in the first half. The game was played at a fast pace and we scored the first goal through a penalty corner near the end of the second half.
After half time Northland ccame out and put a goal away to equalise the game. This built a lot of pressure, as we desperately needed the three points heading into the rest day. Fortunately, Kayla Sharland scored a great penalty corner goal on the stroke of full time to win the match 2-1, a great result for us!
We are now second equal on the points table with nine points alongside North Habour.
Everyone is well in camp although feeling a little tired after 3 consecutive matches. Luckily we have a rest day tomorrow which everyone is looking forward to.
We are heading on a team excursion out to the beach. This will be nice, especially for our Australian player, who has not been to NZ before.
Tonight, within our rooms we have all been given the task of making a dish of our choice. This will mean the girls will all be looking to take out the prize of the best dish which is not only being judged on taste but also appearance. Linda and Lorraine will judge this and have the night off cooking. Even the two boys (coaches) will be showing us what they can do!
We have been looked after well with superb lunches and dinners, once again the managment team are stepping up to the plate!
There have been a few pranks within camp with the management team caught out glad wrapping the toilets, and changing peoples wallpaper pictures on their laptops. Game on now, we'll get them back!
Our next match is is against Southern on
Wednesday so I will provide another update at the conclusion of the game.
Cheers, Emily
