Four wins from Five games

by Emily Naylor

After a three games in a row we welcomed a rest day with open arms.

The day off made good time for reflection on the two wins and the one loss we had accumulated so far in Christchurch, and gave us the chance to make the most of the rest and relaxation.

As mentioned earlier, we had a cook off on Tuesday between the girls and the coaching staff. The night was very successful with everyone coming up with some great meals!

The winners were judged, and in fact a dessert came out on top with a delicious banoffie pie and chocolate and mint truffles.

Yesterday we were back on the horse and were up against Southern.

Southern were a team still to register a win, and although they had come worse off on some big scores, we knew they werent to be taken lightly.

The match was greeted with torrential rain and at times it felt like it was going to snow, particularly towards the end of the match!

We scored two goals in the first half, one field goal and one off a penalty corner. In the second half we put away one more to finish the game as victors, 3-0.

Although it was nice to get the 3 point win, it was disappointing for us to not get more goals with so much possession. We dominated in most areas of the game and should have scored more.

We now sit at first equal on the points table after five games with North Harbour and Midlands. We are all on 12 points, with only goal differential separating the sides, so the next few games will be crucial.

Today we are up against Canterbury at 7pm, big opportunity to take the tournament lead!...game on!!

Cheers
Emily
